What is marybeth tinning?

Marybeth Tinning is an American woman who gained notoriety for the murders of her nine children between 1972 and 1985. She was born on September 11, 1942, in Duanesburg, New York.

Tinning's first child died unexpectedly in 1972, and subsequent children also died under mysterious circumstances. She was investigated by authorities, but they were unable to conclusively prove her involvement in the deaths. It wasn't until 1987 that Tinning was arrested and charged with murder after the death of her ninth child.

In 1987, Tinning was convicted of second-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Tami Lynne. She was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison. Tinning later confessed to smothering three of her children, including Tami Lynne, but maintained that the other deaths were due to natural causes.

Tinning's case is one of the most infamous cases of Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a mental disorder in which a caregiver harms or fabricates illnesses in those they are caring for. She is currently serving her sentence at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women in New York.
